Gathering Efficiency & Speedup Usage Guide

Speedups are one of the most commonly hoarded resources in the game, and hoarding them is almost always the wrong call โ€” an unused speedup produces zero value, while the same speedup applied to an active queue produces real, immediate progress.

Use speedups against your longest active queue

Applying a speedup to whichever queue currently has the most time remaining generally produces the best return, since you're compressing the largest available chunk of dead time rather than a queue that was nearly finished anyway.

Don't save speedups "for a rainy day"

Unless you have a specific known event or double-rewards period coming up, saving speedups indefinitely just delays their value without adding to it โ€” a speedup used today is worth the same as one used in a month, so there's rarely a real cost to using them steadily.

Time bigger speedup pushes around active bonus periods

If your game has periods offering bonus rewards for construction, research, or training completions, that's the one legitimate reason to stockpile speedups briefly โ€” using a backlog of speedups during a bonus window gets you meaningfully more value than spreading the same speedups out normally.

Gathering tile efficiency

  • Assign gathering tiles based on your current bottleneck resource, not a fixed habit.
  • Recall and reassign gathering troops promptly once a tile is depleted โ€” idle gathering troops are a quiet but real efficiency loss.

The general principle

Across both speedups and gathering, the same rule applies: idle capacity is wasted capacity. Whether it's a stockpiled speedup or an idle gathering tile, using it steadily beats holding onto it out of caution.
