Every account eventually gets targeted by a rally, and how prepared you are for that moment matters far more than trying to avoid it entirely โ you can't opt out of PvP forever, but you can control how much it actually costs you.
Garrison composition over garrison size
A larger garrison with the wrong hero and troop mix underperforms a smaller, correctly-composed one. Prioritize defensive heroes with survivability and crowd-control skills for your garrison specifically โ don't just park your strongest offensive hero there by default.
Shields exist for a reason โ use them
New players sometimes avoid using protective shields because they feel like "wasting" them, but an unused shield the moment you get rallied is a shield that did nothing for you. If you're about to be offline for an extended period, or you can see a rally incoming, that's exactly when a shield earns its keep.
Reinforce, don't ignore, alliance rally calls
If your alliance calls for reinforcements to defend a member under attack, responding quickly is one of the highest-value things you can do โ a well-reinforced defense can turn an incoming rally from a loss into a costly failure for the attacker.
Don't take it personally
Getting rallied is a normal, expected part of the game at every stage, not a sign you did something wrong. The players who improve fastest are the ones who treat it as a data point โ what got hit, why, and what to adjust โ rather than a reason to disengage.
Building toward being harder to hit
Over time, garrison strength, alliance territory bonuses, and simply not being an obviously undefended target all reduce how often you're targeted. This compounds with everything covered in our Furnace & Base Progression guide โ a well-developed base is a less attractive target almost by default.
