Instead of publishing a snapshot that goes stale, here's the framework serious players actually use to decide who to invest in.
Know which job a hero is doing
Heroes aren't interchangeable — they fall into a few clear roles, and "best hero" only means something once you know which role you're asking about.
- Rally leads: heroes whose skills scale with squad size and buff the whole rally. These matter most for alliance-level bear/crazy joe hits and PvP rallies.
- Garrison/defense heroes: chosen for survivability and crowd control, since they're the ones sitting in your base absorbing incoming attacks.
- Exploration heroes: prioritize resource and troop-load bonuses over combat stats, since exploration is about efficiency, not fights.
- Pairing heroes: some heroes are mediocre solo but become excellent specifically because their skill kit complements a specific rally lead or defense hero.
Prioritize by what's in front of you, not the meta
If you're a new or mid-game player, the honest answer is: your generation 1-2 heroes carry you further than people expect, because troop tier and research level matter more than hero rarity at low-to-mid Furnace levels. Don't burn resources chasing a "meta" mythic hero before your fundamentals — construction speed, troop training, and research — are caught up.
Expedition skills vs. pairing skills
Every hero has an expedition skill (always active) and a pairing skill (only active when paired with a specific partner). A hero that looks weak on paper can jump several tiers once correctly paired — always check pairing bonuses before writing a hero off.
